(NM 5660 6156) St Columba's Well (NAT)

OS 6" map, Argyllshire, 2nd ed., (1902)

This well is described in 1920 as being a trickle of spring water coming from an iron spout by the roadside. Though the Ordnance Survey Name Book (ONB) states it is not considered holy, Donaldson gives this health-giving well an association with St Columba, using it for baptism.

Name Book 1872; M E M Donaldson 1923

St Columba's Well as described by Donaldson. Name and tradition as a healing well still known locally.

Visited by OS (N K B) 8 June 1970

A medicinal well traditionally associated with St Columba is found here. It lies outside the SSSI. This has been a desk assessment area.
