Activities

Project (1997)

The Public Monuments and Sculpture Association (http://www.pmsa.org.uk/) set up a National Recording Project in 1997 with the aim of making a survey of public monuments and sculpture in Britain ranging from medieval monuments to the most contemporary works. Information from the Edinburgh project was added to the RCAHMS database in October 2010 and again in 2012.

The PMSA (Public Monuments and Sculpture Association) Edinburgh Sculpture Project has been supported by Eastern Photocolour, Edinburgh College of Art, the Edinburgh World Heritage Trust, Historic Scotland, the Hope Scott Trust, The Old Edinburgh Club, the Pilgrim Trust, the RCAHMS, and the Scottish Archive Network.

Standing Building Recording (8 April 2022)

NT 27153 76375 On 8 April 2022 a historic building survey was carried out of Nos 9–11 Maritime Street, Leith prior to the alteration of the buildings.

While originally constructed as a warehouse in the mid-19th century, Nos 9–11 Maritime Street has been heavily altered since that time. The building has changed function to become solely used as office space with the warehouse converted into open plan offices. Whilst some rooms have retained their earlier features the vast majority have been altered to serve as modern offices with painted or wallpapered walls and false ceilings. The exterior of Nos 10 and 11 facing SE to Maritime Street retains its renaissance style and classical symmetry with the only major modern addition being the metal roller shutter door at the S end of the elevation giving access to courtyard to the NW. The original fabric of the remainder of the elevations has been obscured by a combination of cladding and render.
