OS 6" map, Orkney, 2nd ed., (1900).
Orkney-Cromarty type stalled cairn. The site is in low-lying pasture at a little over 50ft.OD. and has been greatly robbed and ruined, but up to 3ft. of cairn material remains. Around the north half of the cairn the original edge can be traced as an undisturbed rim of cairn material. The diameter appears to have been about 57ft. The site is now covered with turf with the small slabs of the cairn material exposed in places.
The entrance has evidently been from the SSE side, the stumps of five orthostats belonging to the chamber just show above the surface, and a sixth remains 2ft. high. The smaller size of the southern pair of stones suggests that these mark the junction of the chamber and passage.
'The remains of a Pict's House'. (Name Book 1880).
A S Henshall 1972, visited 26 September 1967.
A turf-covered Orkney-Cromarty type stalled cairn as described and planned by Henshall.
Resurveyed at 1/2500.
Visited by OS (NKB) 9 June 1967.
A seventh orthostat, on the SW side, 0.6m high, completes the pair next to the back-slab. (Confirmed by A S Henshall).
