An unburnt burial, accompanied by a bronze ring-headed pin of Viking form, was found by Charleston near Stenness in 1902, immediately above the very dilapidated remains of a building which was about 2 ft below ground level.
The pin was purchased by the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland (NMAS) in 1908 ( FC 193 ).

Pin of Bronze, 6 3/8in in length, with a perforation in the head through which a ring 3/4in in diameter passes... [R2] [R3]
...and a grave at Stennes where the sex of the person buried cannot be determined, as the grave contained only a ring headed pin. [R4]
