Archaeology Notes

NS56NW 375 NS c.5510 6675

A barrage balloon mooring site has been identified from an RAF WWII oblique air photograph (No.1 CAM031, 6089, 13 October 1942) in an area to the rear of the present Fire Station, Paisley Road, Renfrew. It is not known whether any part of the mooring blocks survive today.

Information from RCAHMS (DE), March 2002

Activities

Note (21 April 2017)

A re-evaluation of the evidence provided by an RAF photograph (No. 1 CAM031, 6089), taken on 13 October 1942, has concluded that the previously identified World War Two Barrage Balloon anchoring site, should be discounted, as no such feature is visible at this location.

Information from HES, Survey and Recording (ATW, AKK) 21 April 2017.
