Archaeology Notes

NO65SW 49.01 60546 51291

The original satellite fighter watch office survives as a single storey building immediately to the SE of the later two-storey tower. The later tower is an extension built when the airfield was altered to become a forward fighter satellite station (Francis 1996). Both are situated in a cultivated field about 100m SE of a house annotated 'Viewmont' on the current OS 1:2500 scale digital map.

The original office was built to design number 1536/42, whilst the later was to no. 7332/42.

Both watch offices or control towers are visible on vertical photographs (106G/Scot/UK 6, 3242-3243, flown 14 April 1946), which also show that the apron immediately in front of the building had the letters 'KL' painted in white on it.

To the NW of the towers one blister hangar and several huts and buildings are visible on the photographs, some of which are depicted on the OS map..

Information from RCAHMS (DE), November 2005.
