Geophysical Survey (September 2022)
NT 51809 73870 The Church dating to 1770, with later alterations and additions is on the site of the former Franciscan Priory Church ‘Lamp of the Lothian’, a bastion associated with the 1548/9 siege was thought to be built on the site. A geophysical survey of three areas – the Manse garden, main driveway and area to NE was carried out, in September 2022, with inconclusive results due to the very low moisture content of the subsoil. A further survey of the garden and driveway was completed in October in more suitable conditions. There are some higher resistance anomalies in each area that could represent earlier structures the evidence is not conclusive and would require further investigation.
