Archaeology Notes

NS29SE 10 centred 2769 9150

Auchengaich dam and reservoir were constructed by the military to supplement water supplies to Helensburgh and Garelochside during World War II.The dam is constructed from clay, boulders, cement blocks and hardcore and the reservoir has a water surface of about 50,000 square yards. A system of approach roads was constructed using hard core rather than tarmac and the bridges over the tributaries of the Auchengaich Burn are of reinforced concrete.
