Activities

Field Visit (12 December 1968)

The parish church has undergone alterations and the stone, which is as described, is now in the middle of the E wall, and partly obscured by recent plaster work.

Surveyed at 1/2500.

Visited by OS (R L), 12 December 1968.

Desk Based Assessment (1968)

NJ93SE 2.02 9588 3047

There is a carved stone on the right-hand side of the north-east window of the parish church of Ellon just above the window sill. It is of reddish granite, 30ins in length, 12ins in breadth and 8ins thick up to the woodwork of the window. It has been trimmed to fit its position destroying part of the design. It seems to be a portion of a cross, the arms of which were themselves crosslets.

J Ritchie 1915.
