Activities

Desk Based Assessment (February 2007 - March 2007)

Brett Homes (North East Scotland) Limited commissioned AOC Archaeology Group to undertake a Desk-Based Assessment in anticipation of residential development at Panmurefield, Dundee. The remains of buildings associated with the Panmurefield Tomato factory and a dovecote occupy part of the site.

Cartographic and documentary sources indicate that the proposed development area has been primarily under agricultural use over the last 400 years with part of the site undergoing industrial works associated with the tomato factory in the mid-20th century. A number of sites of archaeological interest have been noted within 500m of the proposed development site, originating from prehistory through to the modern period. There is a possibility of encountering buried remains that may be associated with these, in addition to the known remains of the dovecots and tomato factory works.
