Activities

Note (1 September 2011)

The site of a former RAF 'ROTOR' radar station, previously recorded as a Military Camp and Installation. Built as part of a nationwide early warning system called 'ROTOR', RAF Scarinish was due to open in December 1953 with a number of different radar types installed, controlled from a operation block.

The ROTOR plan was modified with the adoption of the Type 80 radar in 1953. This radar system was installed here and one of the surviving structures is the Type 80 modulator building situated on the summit of Beinn Ghott. RAF Scarinish closed in the early 1960's and was place on care and maintance. Only the foundations of the operation block and Guard house survive, but a number of brick built buidlings survive.
