OS 6" map, Shetland, 2nd ed., (1900)
There are now no clear indications of the ground-plan of the chapel nor any traces of a burial ground. An early structure of considerable extent probably once stood here, but, if so, its true character cannot be determined without excavation. Within the years before 1930 remains of building were accidentally exposed by the proprietor of the adjoining croft, and a few rude stone implements and fragments of hard baked pottery of close texture were recovered at the same time. Some of these fragments are in the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland (NMAS). There is a tradition on the island that there was formerly a small ecclesiastical establishment somewhere in the neighbourhood.
RCAHMS 1946, visited 1930.
RCAHMS confirmed.
