Archaeology Notes

NJ90NW 112 9410 0611

(Location cited as NJ 9409 0611). Excavation of a car park site between 50 and 60m E of the Denburn revealed 12th century cobbling, three sherds of 13th century pottery, and Mesolithic flints.

Mesolithic flint-working floor excavated in trench 2, December 1976; semi-circular on plan and measuring about 0.8 by 0.9m with debitage. The area slopes to the S and more steeply to the W.

The archive from 45-59 Green has been catalogued. It consists of manuscripts, drawings and colour photographs (prints only).

Historic Scotland Archive Project (FO) 1997

In 1976 revealed part of a roughly oval scatter of flints was revealed by excavation of 45-59 Green. The excavated portion contained 297 pieces, including cores, flakes, bladelets, microburins, a burin spall, microliths, scrapers, burins and awls. The finds from the excavation are now in Aberdeen Art Gallery and Museum.
