(NJ 8219 2470) Cists and Human Remains found AD 1820 (NAT)

OS 6" map, Aberdeenshire, 2nd ed., (1928)

These relics consisted of two stone cists about 4 feet long by 20 inches square, each containing human bones, found about 1817 to 1822. Part of one of the slabs is still visible among the rubbish on the south side of the adjacent road, about 3 chains below where they were discovered.

OS Name Book 1867.

No information regarding original find-spot, and no trace of a part of the slab mentioned by the Ordnance Survey Name Book (ONB) (1867) in an area which has recently been used as a dump for stones.

Visited by OS (NKB) 5 March 1964.

The site where these two cists were found in 1820, which is now waste ground on the W side of the public road, has been used to dump piles of field-cleared stones.

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS, IF), 22 March 1996.
