Archaeology Notes

NJ81NW 30 c. 82 18.

In Inverurie Museum are the following stone implements from Peathill (NJ 82 18):

3 barbed and tanged flint arrowheads (Accession nos: AD 191 - 193);

a leaf-shaped flint arrowhead (Acc No: A 216), found in 1884. Part of the John Kerr collection;

a stone axe, 6 1/8" long (Accession no: AF 43), loaned by A J Reid, Barnet, Herts., in 1961; and

a polished stone axe (Accession no: AF 59).

(Undated) information in Inverurie Museum accessions register.

Inverurie Museum AF 43 (Clough and Cummins ABN 85) remains petrologically unattributed, but AF 59 (ABN 98) has been identified as altered porphyritic dolerite.

T H McK Clough and W A Cummins 1988.

The collection of Inverurie Museum has been re-catalogued, but the new catalogue is incomplete and there is no easy system of identifying the new accession numbers of these artefacts.

Information from RCAHMS (JRS) 5 July 2001.
