Part of the target dragging system for the Loch Doon Gunnery School is situated on the slopes to the east of the loch. Other elements of this system are plotted on OS 1:10000 scale map sheets NX49NE, and NX 59SW.

Much of the system is visible on air photographs (RAF 106G/Scot/UK 172, 3222, 4220, flown 27 August 1946).
