Fyvie 2, Aberdeenshire, Pictish symbol stone
Measurements: H 0.71m, W 0.30m
Stone type: whinstone
Place of discovery: NJ 7684 3777
Present location: built into the east gable of the chancel of Fyvie church, under the window.
Evidence for discovery: it was built into an exterior wall of Fyvie church, presumably when the latter was built in 1803. It was probably in the east gable, as it was incorporated into the new chancel of the church in 1903.
Present condition: it was trimmed into a rectangular slab for re-use as a building stone. The carving is very weathered.
Description
The slab as it survives is incised with the right-hand portion of a double-disc and Z-rod above the central portion of a very stylised eagle.
Date: seventh century.
