Archaeology Notes

NJ72SW 39 c. 74 24.

A perforated axe-hammer, 9" (229mm) long by 6" (152mm) broad, found at least 150 years ago at Harlaw (name: NJ 74 24), is in the Mrs Irvine collection at Barra Castle.

Visited by OS (RL) 20 March 1969.

A perforated axe-hammer found at Harlaw is in the possession of Mrs Bogden, Barra Castle. The axe-hammer measures 230mm in length by 150mm in breadth and about 57mm in thickness; the hour-glass perforation expands from 35mm in diameter at its waist to 65mm at the mouth.
