(HY 2445 2483) Tumuli (NR)

O.S.6"map, Orkney, 2nd ed.,(1900).

The remains of four small mounds said to be ancient places of interment.

Name Book 1880.

The Commission says of these mounds that they were levelled some years before 1930 to provide top-dressing for poor land.

RCAHMS 1946.

An ideal position for tumuli, on prominent hill, but no trace of any mounds was seen (in a cultivated field).

Visited by OS(RL) 17 May 1967.

Activities

Remains of four small mounds said to be ancient places of interment, or burial mounds, an eighth of a mile E of Leaquoy, the same distance N of Rubreck. [R1]

This mound is about 50 yards from a small quarry on the N side of the road to Marwick head, immediately to the E of the road to Berrydale. It is approx 35ft in diameter by 3ft in height. [R2]
