Archaeology Notes

NO21SW 259 Myres Castle - cultivation remains; rig; cropmarks; linear cropmark

Aerial reconnaissance has recorded cropmarks including those of a linear cropmark, cultivation remains and rig about 300m to the SE of Demperston cottages. One of the cropmarks, situated in the middle of the field, is shown on the OS 1st edition 6-inch map as an old quarry (Fife, 1856, sheet xv). The surrounding area is rich in agricultural remains, including farmsteads and field systems. The linear cropmark runs across the NW half of the field from the SW-NE and consists of a broad linear feature with a thin parallel linear feature and is about 150m long. The rig is located in the E part of the field.
