Architecture Notes

NMRS REFERENCE:

ARCHITECT: Sir Robert Lorimer 1895

Edmund Fraser, son of Lord Fraser, Senator of the College of Justice, commissioned Robert Lorimer his neighbour in Edinburgh to design a Fishermans Hotel in 1894. This design was not executed and a second was commissioned in 1895 using timber rather than stone construction due to the isolated location. The hotel was destroyed by fire in the early 1900's.

The building of VEMENTRY HOUSE by Edmund Fraser's Sisters appears contemporary with the destruction of the hotel and the death of Edmund Fraser.

Information per Mike Finnie, 9 Husidale, Burra Isle, Shetland ZE2 9LF.
