Archaeology Notes

NJ62SW 25 c. 61 22.

'Iron axe found on (NJ 61 22: Druidstone) farm 20 years ago; is now almost crumbled to dust, but two pieces placed correctly together yet show pretty well the original shape. The axe must have been about 6 1/2" (165mm) long, 2 1/4" (57mm) at broadest part, which is the cutting edge, and 1 1/8" (29mm) at narrowest part, which is the eye'.

J Gurnell 1884.

No further information.

Visited by OS (ISS) 7 August 1973.

(Name cited as Druidstone Farm).

NMRS, MS/712/60.

The present whereabouts of this iron axe is not known.

Information from RCAHMS (JRS), 30 November 2000.
