Archaeology Notes

ND26SW 53 23866 61875.

Lying to the W behind the manse, this farmstead of L-shaped plan incorporates a barn with opposing doors and slit vents, a stable, a stalled byre with hen boxes, a cart shed and timber-lined tack room with a wall-mounted saddle holder, and a turnip store. A piggery with a lean-to roof formerly stood against the N wall adjacent to the barn, but has largely been removed. The steading is built of roughly coursed flagstone and has graded slate hipped roofs, with cobbled or flagstone floors throughout. Walls link the steading to the manse forming an enclosed courtyard. The site was visited in 2000.
