"Bruce's Howe, Entrenchments (Site of): A name applied to faint traces of an artificial hollow, situated on the north-east side of Cot Hill, from 30 to 40 links wide. There are traces of other similar entrenchments on Cot Hill. Tradition records it to have been excavated by Robert Bruce's army, about the year 1300 or 1400."

Name Book 1871.

"Nothing seen from road to NE except possibly an old enclosure-bank".

There are no traces of earthworks or hollows on Cot Hill, which is covered with gorse and whin.
