(NJ 5259 2480) Urn and Human Remains found (NAT)

OS 6" map, (1959)

An urn containing burnt bones and a small oval cup, like a sugar basin, 4 inches (102mm) diameter and 1 1/2 inches (38mm) high, was found in February, 1866 by Mr Gordon of Gordonstown, while digging sand at a depth of 2 1/2 feet (0.76m). Unfortunately both urns were broken. Nearby Mr Gordon found several deposits of calcined bones, in one place these had been covered by flat stones.

Name Book 1866.

No further information regarding the urns. These finds, however, were without doubt associated with the stone circle which formerly stood at this spot (NJ52SW 2).

Visited by OS (RL) 12 September 1967.

The site of these discoveries is now built over with farm buildings (NJ52SW 75); the present location of the 'urns' is not known

Visited by RCAHMS (ATW), 10 September 1998.
