(HY 2674 2761) Stanerandy Tumulus (NR)
O.S.6"map, Orkney, 2nd ed.,(1900).
A small much-damaged mound about 5 ft high, surmounted by two standing stones, 6 ft apart, facing NW-SE. The space between them is largely filled with smaller stones gathered from the fields, so that the form and size of the original mound can no longer be recognized.
The NW stone is 5 ft 4 ins high and 27 ins wide at the base, narrowing to 16 ins, and up to 9 ins thick.
The SE stone is 5 ft 2 ins but is tilted towards the SE. The maximum breadth (at base) is 26 ins and the aver- age thickness is 6 1/2 ins.
It stands on elevated ground and can be seen from any part of the Barony (cf. 'Knowe of Crustan' - HY22NE 5).
RCAHMS 1946.
Stanerandy, a truncated mound, surmounted by two standing stones and generally as described by the Commission, except that only the stump of the SE stone remains standing, 0.6 m. high.
The mound is situated on a crest, and is probably a barrow, the two stones being later additions.
Resurveyed at 1/2500.
Visited by OS(NKB) 30 May 1967.
Field Visit (19 May 1993)
This mound could be similar to that at Brodgar with standing stones. It measures 12.0m by 13.0m and 1.0m in height. It is visible to the S-SW down to the loch for 1km.

Orkney Smr Note
Two standing stones on artifical mound, no appearance of
being dug into. They are about 6ft apart in a line running NW and
SE, they have the appearance of being head and foot stones of a
grave. If they ever had an inscription it must have been
obliterated ages ago by time and the elements. [R1]
Small much damaged mound with two standing stones. NW stone
is 5ft 4in high its breadth is 27in at base, 20in at 3ft above
ground and 16in at 6in from top, about 9in thick for lower 2ft of
its height, above which a portion has been broken off the SE face.
SE stone's height is 5ft 2in, breadth is 26in at base, 22in at 3ft
above ground and 19in at 1ft from top, the stone narrows suddenly
on W side. Average thickness is 6.5in. [R2]
