World War One Audit of Surviving Remains (18 June 2013)

This drill hall was in use in 1908 as the HQ of the 4th Battalion of the Gordon Highlanders. It is now a grand 5-storey Customs House, with classical detail, now in official and commercial use.

George Mellis and Sons occupied No.28 Guild Street according to the Aberdeen Post Office Directory of 1957-8.

During May 1999, RCAHMS conducted a photographic survey of Guild Street and environs. This also included views of the Custom house at 26-32 Guild Street. The purpose of this survey was to enhance and augment the existing holdings of the National Monuments Record Scotland.

Project (March 2013 - September 2013)

A project to characterise the quantity and quality of the Scottish resource of known surviving remains of the First World War. Carried out in partnership between Historic Scotland and RCAHMS.
