Archaeology Notes

HY40NE 27.02 47515 08349 and 47604 08349

Two extant S/Main or Mainhill type hangars are situated on the W side of the airfield 350m S of the shoreline at Sand of Wideford. The two aircraft hangars are still used service aircraft and both have recently been re-painted. A new building (post 1948) has been constructed between the two hangars.

In WW II these two hangars formed part of an original group of three, the concrete base of the third is still visible 150m to the N and in addition a few Nissen huts, now removed, also stood immediately S of the remaining dispersal bay.

Visited by RCAHMS (DE, SW), August 2000.
