Archaeology Notes

NG88SE 47 centred 87418 83956

The balloon station for the Loch Ewe defences is situated to the NW of Tournaig farmsteading and 200m NW of the heavy anti-aircraft battery (NG88SE 26), between the shore and the road. Several buildings survive, including the water tower (NG 8755 8391), several hut bases and a concrete pier. A modern farm shed has been built on the base of the original building at the pier. This building has been altered by constructing the new upper part and roof on the foundations of the old. The building is now in use as a barn.
