The Stair Inn is situated immediately N of the B370 public road at the junction with a minor road from the E.
Set back from the road it is two storeys high with slated roof, five bays with the entrance to the S. The current map shows a rectangular building as opposed to that shown on the OS historical maps (see below).
The building is depicted as roofed on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Ayrshire, 1860, sheet xxxiv) and annotated 'Bridgend'. The Object Name Book describes the Inn as ' A two storey and slated public house with out offices ?. All in good repair property and residence of Mr William Petticrew. Name derived from its Antiquity to Stair Bridge (NS42SW 5).
