Insc: With the Churches Commission July 1906. Album of amateur snapshots recording a visit by ministers to the Western Isles. Largely United Free Church members, the Rev. A. Lee being the Mission Superintendent for the Commitee for Highlands and Islands. Shown are the "Tighnamara" after a storm and at Tobermory Bay and there are photographs of the Commissioner, MrNJK Cochran-Patrick and Rev A Lee swearing islanders as witnesses, Rev Fraser of Plockton Free Church, Mr Duncan (Dingwall), Mr MacLeod (Coigach), Rev MacDonald (Raasay), Capt. Downie, Mr Finney (Free Church), Mr Pitman (Congregational) at Grantown, Mr Dalmahoy (United Free Church), Mr Simpson (Free Church) and Mr Evans (United Free Church). One photograph is of the Commissioner landing at Staffin, being carried piggyback through the surf by a sturdy Highlander. There are also pictures of the standing stones at Callernish; Manish Church, Harris; and many of cottages at Torridon; Shieldaig; Alligan; Obbe, Harris; Newton Ferry, Carinish; Grimisay and Berneray, N Uist; Creagory; Benbecula; Lochboisdale, S Uist; Castlebay, Barra; Tobermory and Inverary. Some of the snapshots show groups of people in small rowing or sailing boats or in carriages on rough roads.Finally there are several photographs of a possible steam car, Reg. no.
