Callernish, Sir Martyn Beckett Bt., 1962 Circular laird's house, fusing modern principles and materials with a thoroughly familiar blend of Scots detail, its design governed by the gale factor. An arched pend leads into a sheltered courtyard which emulates that uniquely Scottish variation on the farm court - the 'round square'. The house's ordered geometry is as much the legacy of the Scottish 19th-century model farm as of Modern architecture.
