Archaeology Notes

NJ41SE 12 c. 45 14.

An ornamented slate stone ball with four protruding discs with curvilinear ornament, was found in 1860 in digging a drain, several feet under the ground, on Glass or Gray Hill, Towie, identified by Simpson with Glaschul Hill (NJ 45 14). Many ancient remains 'such as stone cups etc.' have been found on the hill. The ball was given to the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland (NMAS, AS 10) in 1860 by Mr James Kesson, farmer, Upper Drumallachie, through the Rev. John Christie, Kildrummy. The occurrence between the discs of three dots in a triangle has been compared to Pictish work and the spiral ornament on the discs to B.A. styles.
