Beneffrey, 124 Springkell Avenue, 1910, William Hunter McNab
Large asymmetrical Franco-Scots late gothic villa by William Leiper's successor. Mullioned and transomed leaded-pane casement windows, huge conical-roofed circular turret. Narrow pedimented gables and tall chimneystacks as used at West Princes Street, Helensburgh (see North Clyde Estuary Guide) and at Argyll Mansions, Oban (see Argyll and the Islands Guide). Fine interior, oak panelling, low-beamed ceilings, carved stone overmantles, high-quality plasterwork, G Bankart of G Jackson & Sons, for John Anderson. One of the last villas to be built in Pollokshields, it became a Strathclyde University Hall of Residence, and is now subdivided into three dwellings.
