OS 6"map, (1938)

The traditional site of Malcolm's camp before the Battle of Mortlach in 1010.

Name Book 1869.

No trace of a "camp" on this slight eminence. Tradition still known locally although no mention by Shaw (L Shaw 1882). (See NJ33NW 5.) Visited by OS (N K B) 25 January 1967.

Activities

Field Visit (24 July 1943)

There are now no traces of 'Malcolm's Camp' on the site marked on the 6-inch OS map, but on the low shoulder that descends to the S corner of the field there is a slightly raised stony patch, about 30ft in diameter, associated with what seems to be an outcrop of rock. This might be the foundation of a cairn.

Visited by RCAHMS (AG) 24 July 1943
