Govan Savings Bank, 705-707 Govan Road, 1904, Eric A Sutherland

The standard bank site was required to be on a prominent corner. Here Sutherland enhanced the corner site with an elaborate elongated stone drum, the only feature not of conventional classical architecture. After flirting with the Glasgow Style and then Art Deco for his cinemas, Sutherland returned to a simplified classical palette for his later banks. Carved coats of Royal Arms, Richard Ferris.
