Metal Detector Survey (20 March 2023 - 21 March 2023)
NN 78921 02680 AOC Archaeology Group was commissioned by Tetra Tech Ltd on behalf of their client Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) to undertake an archaeological metal detecting survey at Queen Victoria School, Dunblane, Stirling ahead of the proposed installation of a photovoltaic array to provide solar power to the school. The survey was undertaken on rough grassland situated to the immediate north-east of the schools’ playing fields centered on NGR: NN 78921 02680. A total of 67 targets were investigated during the survey and a total of 35 artefacts were recovered. These consisted of 26 5.56mm blank cartridge cases, two general service military buttons, a brass military webbing buckle, a brass box plate, a watch face and five coins of 19th century and modern date. It is likely that the majority of the artefacts were associated with 20th century military training exercises.
