NJ26SW 20 c. 21 62

A socketed bronze axe from Elgin (city centred NJ 21 62) is in the British Museum (WG 1982). It was formerly in the collection of Canon Greenwell.

W Henderson 1938, 165; J M Coles 1962; I C Walker 1967; 1974.

(Socketed axe: Newton variant of Dowris type). Single find. Socketed axe, cleaned, porous, notches at cutting edge and mouth, incompletely trimmed, haft ribs; length 79mm, mouth 28 x 32mm, cutting edge 56mm, weight 240 gms.
