(HY 2524 1755) Howans {NR} (Site of)

O.S.6"map, Orkney, 2nd ed.,(1903).

'The remains of two buildings said to have been ancient Broughs. In the most northerly one some ancient relics were discovered also Deer's horns. In the same Brough stands a well. There is no tradition of any description concerning it. '

Name Book 1880.

The area is now under cultivation. A chambered structure is said to have occupied the site.

RCAHMS 1946.

No trace of buildings in a cultivated field.

Visited by OS(RL) 20 May 1967.
