(NJ 1037 6408) Hempriggs Castle (NR) (Site of)

OS 6" map, Morayshire, 2nd ed., (1906)

'Site of Hempriggs Castle ... This castle is supposed to have been built in the reign of James the Second and was for centuries an heritage of a branch of the Dunbar family. It was completely demolished about 40 years ago (ie. 1830) and the stones were used in building the present farmsteading. No trace of this castle now remains.'

Name Book 1870.

The site of this castle lies in an arable field. No trace remains.
