Archaeology Notes

HY21NE 33 2955 1935

There is a mound 30ft in diameter and almost 3ft in height at the SW corner of a sheepfold about 500 or 600 yds SE of the farmhouse of Howaback and about 150 yds from the Loch of Harray.

Though now grass-grown it appears to be mainly composed of fairly large stones, as a number of these can be seen lying in the hollowed top and protruding at intervals around the sloping sides.

RCAHMS 1946.

A grass-covered mound, situated at HY 2955 1935, on a slight rise in a pasture field.

Generally as described by the Commission, it is composed mainly of earth, with a few protruding stones, and is probably a barrow.

Surveyed at 1/2500.

Visited by OS (RL), 17 June 1966.
