An LBA socketed Axe was found at Alves.

W Henderson 1938.

In the British Museum (WG 1983) is a bag-type LBA socketed axe from Alves.

J M Coles 1962.

These axes may be associated with a find of 'Danish axes' in peat near Earnside (NJ16SW 11)

(Socketed axe: Newton variant of Dowris type). Single find. Socketed axe, green-brown patina, slightly corroded, haft ribs; length 63mm, mouth 30 x 37mm, cutting edge 43mm, weight 126 gms. BM (WG 1983).
