Archaeology Notes

NJ16SW 15 centred 133 620.

In a round cairn, on the farm of Carsewell, a cist with a cup-marked end slab was found. There were thirty-seven cup-marks, occurring on both sides of the slab.

J G Phillips 1898.

The grave had been previously disturbed. Nothing was known about the cairn or cup-marked stone at Carswell farm.

Visited by OS (W D J) 19 August 1963.

Location Notes: Carsewell farmhouse is divided into flats and the surrounding area developed for housing. I asked at a few houses but nobody knew anything about either a cairn or a cup marked stone.
