This farmstead, which is situated on the edge of a grassy terrace to the E of Hermitage Castle (NY49NE 5.00), comprises three buildings and two enclosures. The buildings, which are arranged around three sides of a courtyard and have been much reduced by robbing, range in size from 13.8m to 10m in length by between 5.3m and 6.2m in breadth over faced-rubble walls 0.9m in thickness and up to 0.3m in height. That to the E of the yard has two compartments and there is what may be a midden heap overgrown with rushes immediately to the E (LID96 266, NY 4977 9606). The enclosures lie to the E and NW respectively, and respect the line of the drain from the outwork of Hermitage Castle, which extends past the terrace on the NE. The farmstead is depicted on the 1718 estate plan of Hermitage (SRO RHP 9629).
