It is said that the water of St Margaret's Well on the north hillside above the Priory was conducted in pipes to the garden and to the Priory. It is now dried up.

H B Mackintosh 1924.

St Margaret's Well, a holy well, lies in the NE corner of the Priory garden. It was resorted to as late as the 18th century. (See NJ15NW 10 - Wishing Well, possible cist).

P F Anson 1959.

There is no trace of St Margaret's Well and no good authority for it being a builtwell. According to Father Edmund (Pluscarden Priory) the name probably applied to a natural spring in the area centred NJ 1408 5804. Here water issues at several points at the base of a scree slope and is collected in a modern brick-lined box on the N side of a forestry road from where it is conducted by a pipe to a larger tank below the road, and on to the Priory. There are traces of several old pipes in the vicinity of the brick-lined box.
