Accessing Scotland's Past Project

A bridge, built in 1911, carries the road over the River Spey at Blacksboat, towards the railway station.

The bridge has three spans, and is constructed of steel girders and iron trusses, resting on two sets of stone piers.

Prior to the building of the bridge, a public ferry operated across this stretch of the river, hence the name. Older maps also depict a ford a short distance to the south.
