Accessing Scotland's Past Project

Nineteenth century accounts describe an arrangement of two large stones, named Uaimh Abhainn, which once stood to the west of the River Livet north of The Neilead. The position of the stones was marked on the 1st edition of the Ordnance Survey 6-inch map of Banffshire, surveyed in 1869. Local tradition stated that the stones marked the resting place of Abhainn, wife of the legendary hero, Fingal. The precise nature of the site is uncertain.
