Activities

Orkney Smr Note (July 1985)

Within the ruins of the Old Kirk are two tombstones.

The is 5ft 6in x 2ft 5in x 3.75in and is for Leane Stewart

who died in December 1625.

The second is now broken into pieces and was for the grave of

of the local minister, Mr John Balvaird who died on the 4th of

April 1668, aged 61. [R1]

No trace of either of the two tombstones, but building is

overgrown inside with nettles and there is some timber rubbish

piled up.

Project (February 2014 - July 2014)

A data upgrade project to record war memorials.

Oic_project (1 January 2014 - 14 May 2015)

A project undertaken during 2014 and early 2015 to catalogue and describe all of Orkney's war memorials.

Field Visit (27 May 2014)

Two white marble plaques mounted on black panels on the west and north walls of the entrance lobby of the Hoy Kirk. Inscriptions are engraved and painted black.
