All that can now be seen of the medieval settlement of Treverlen, latterly equated with Duddingston (Dodin's village or town) is the 12th-century church. The earliest records of the land that now falls within Holyrood Park show that in the early 12th century, it was divided between royal demesne and the estate of Treverlen, then in the hands of Uviet the White. With the foundation of Holyrood Abbey in 1128, David I granted demesne lands to the Augustinian canons, and Uviet endowed the Abbey with part of Arthur's Seat. The church at Duddingston probably formed the focal point of the settlement. No medieval remains were discovered during trial excavations in advance of an extension to the car park at Duddingston Loch (see NT27SE 625).
