Scraulac, Boundary Stone

A granite boundary stone on the summit of Scraulac marked the march between Inverernan and Candacraig estates in the late nineteenth century. Rectangular in section and standing 0.7m in height, the stone bears the letter C on its north-west face and I on the south-east. The number sixteen carved into the flat top of the stone indicates the number of this marker in a series of similar stones.

This boundary stone is situated on the summit of Scraulac at a height of 741m OD. Rectangular in section, it is a flat-topped granite block of rectangular section, measuring 0.3m in breadth by 0.15m in thickness and 0.72m in height It bears an incised letter C (Candacraig) on its NW face and the letter I (Inverernan) on its SE face. On the top of the stone there is the number 16.

The stone is not depicted on either the 1st or 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map (Aberdeenshire 1869, sheet lxix; 1902, sheet lxix).
